It is not the diseases that engulf us. It is the other way round. We, with our bad and unhygienic habits give access to viral infections and the entry of germs goes easier. It grows difficult for the delicate babies to fight the diseases and they become easy prey. Therefore, the importance of organic crib mattress increases to the highest degree.
Mattresses, whether standard or an Organic Baby Mattress, should always be firm. You would think a soft one would be desirable because many adults prefer it, but it’s actually very dangerous for babies. Babies need a firm surface because they cannot easily move out of positions. If they were to turn over on a soft mattress, their face could sink in because they can’t easily roll back over. Place your hand on the mattress to check the resistance.
An adequate provision for ventilation. In the past, people liked to keep their mattresses fresh by airing them every few days or so. For those who don’t have the space or time to take out a mattress and leave it in strong natural sunlight for a couple of hours, the next best thing are a system of small air vents or pockets that allow air to circulate in the mattress.
Find a reasonably firm mattress. Soft mattresses seem like a good choice from an adult perspective, but babies need a more solid sleep surface since they can’t move themselves out of positions where their face sinks into the mattress if they get turned over. Push down on the mattress and see how much your hand sinks into the mattress. The more resistance, the firmer the mattress.
Mattress should be reasonably firm. Soft mattresses are good for adults but not so for child since when their face sinks in it, they cannot move like the adults to get out of that position. It may result in suffocation and even death.
A good size bed mattress. The standard size mattress measures 27 inches by 52 inches. This is the mattress for beds that are available today. It would be good if exact, removing the possible problem that extra space between the pad and the side of the crib can cause. But if you have an old cradle, the dimensions of the plate might not be exact or similar to what is stated above. It would then be preferable to know the exact size of the crib that you have before actually buying a mattress pad. In both cases the thickness should not exceed 6 inches, so your child would not be able to crawl out and experience a fall.
Double check the size of the mattress against the size of your crib. Most cribs and crib mattresses are made in standard sizes these days, so the mattress size shouldn’t be an issue. Occasionally you may find that a mattress doesn’t fit well with a certain crib, though, so checking the fit is important. The mattress should fit fairly tight inside the crib. There shouldn’t be an obvious gap between the crib frame and mattress, and you shouldn’t be able to easily push more than one finger down in between the mattress and crib frame.
Look for the certifications. Any mattress you buy should be certified safe by agencies like GREEGUARD. It should also comply with government flammability standards. Follow the advice above and you should have no problem finding the best organic crib mattress for your baby.
